The Primary Years Programme (PYP) at PHIS is an inquiry-based curriculum structured around six transdisciplinary themes, guiding teachers to develop meaningful and engaging inquiries. These themes allow students to deeply explore significant ideas, making real-world connections beyond the classroom. The PYP ensures that learning is both challenging and engaging, empowering students to take ownership of their education.
Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that students learn best through active exploration. Each unit of inquiry provides an in-depth investigation of important concepts, encouraging students to collaborate, think critically, and apply their knowledge in creative ways. Teachers continually assess student understanding, gathering evidence of their learning through individual and group activities.
Beyond the core curriculum, students engage in specialist classes that further enrich their learning journey. These include Bangla, Sports, Performing Arts, Music, Drama, and Spanish, allowing students to develop diverse skills and interests. Learning extends beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities such as Clubs, Swimming, After-School Activities, and CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service), fostering a well-rounded education.
Every day presents an opportunity to explore the world in meaningful ways. The IB Learner Profile provides a model for students and parents to understand the qualities that PYP learners strive to be: Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Risk-Takers, Knowledgeable, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Balanced, and Reflective. These attributes reflect the holistic nature of an IB education, and our educators help students develop and demonstrate them throughout their learning journey. Through structured play, hands-on experiences, and meaningful interactions, we support students in developing essential communication and thinking skills.
