At Pledge Harbor International School (PHIS), we believe that the most powerful lessons are often the ones that happen outside four walls. As a forward-thinking English Medium School in Bangladesh rooted in the International Baccalaureate philosophy, we are committed to giving our students rich, real-world learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to the world they will one day lead.
In that spirit, students from Grades 3 to 7 recently embarked on a truly impactful field trip to the CCDB Climate Centre in Sreepur, Gazipur — Bangladesh’s leading hub for climate education, environmental innovation, and community resilience.
The CCDB Climate Centre offered our young learners a rare and immersive window into one of the most pressing challenges of our generation: climate change and its impact on Bangladesh and the world.
The day’s journey began at the Climate Park, where students physically experienced the diversity of Bangladesh’s major ecological zones — from coastal regions to flood-prone plains to drought-affected areas. Rather than reading about these realities in a textbook, our students walked through them, observed them, and began to ask the deeper questions that great learning always inspires.
They witnessed first-hand how communities across Bangladesh are actively responding to floods, salinity, drought, rising sea levels, and other escalating climate challenges — gaining a profound appreciation for both the urgency of environmental action and the resilience of the people most affected by it.
The field trip went beyond awareness. Our students also explored research displays and innovation models that showcased some of the most exciting frontiers in climate solutions, including:
For students following the IB curriculum at PHIS — where interdisciplinary thinking, inquiry, and real-world connections are fundamental — this visit was a perfect embodiment of learning in action. Science, geography, social studies, and global citizenship all converged in a single, unforgettable day.
What made this trip truly special was not just what students saw — but how they engaged with it. The day was filled with:
Watching our Grade 3 to Grade 7 students engage so thoughtfully and enthusiastically with complex global issues was a proud reminder of why experiential learning is at the heart of what makes PHIS one of the most distinctive English Medium Schools in Dhaka.
The IB framework — which underpins everything we do at Pledge Harbor International School as an IB Boarding School in Dhaka — places enormous value on Action, Inquiry, and Reflection. Field trips like this one are not optional enrichment. They are integral to how our students develop into knowledgeable, caring, and principled global citizens.
When a Grade 5 student stands in front of a model of a flood-affected village and asks “What can I do about this?” — that is the PHIS philosophy at work. That curiosity, that empathy, that sense of personal responsibility — these are the qualities we nurture every single day, inside the classroom and beyond it.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire CCDB team at the Climate Centre in Sreepur for their outstanding hospitality, expertise, and commitment to environmental education. Your work is making a genuine difference — and our students are better thinkers and more caring citizens because of the time they spent with you.
And to our dedicated PHIS teachers who organised and facilitated this enriching experience — thank you for going above and beyond to bring learning to life for our students. Your effort and passion never go unnoticed.
